The Handbook of Vocabulary by Singapore Asia Publishers is a very helpful guide for students to use alongside their school textbooks.
When Big E was revising Chinese in Sec 1, she'd always be asking me, "What does this term mean?" Or "How do you use this term in a sentence?" Sometimes I or Google can help but there are also times when I find Google Translate's Chinese-English translation inaccurate and the sentences we find in Google for the 生字 (vocabulary) are too cheem (deep) or impractical for Big E.
So, I'm really glad when I found this Handbook of Vocabulary For Secondary 2A (Express) at Singapore Asia Publishers - I wish I got to know of this when Big E was in Sec 1! This handbook is in line with the units taught in Big E's school and for each topic, it lists the vocabulary for each unit, explanations in Chinese and English and how to use them in 造句 (sentences).
Now that Big E is using this handbook, I've gotten a lot less Chinese questions from her 😆 If like Big E, your child is not very strong in Chinese and needs some help with what's taught in their textbooks, I highly recommend using this handbook alongside their school textbooks. SAP also has similar Chinese vocab handbooks for primary and other secondary levels 😉
But of course, do check first that this is in line with what your child's school is teaching as syllabus can vary among schools, especially for IP streams.
