Made my first secondary school author visit in April!
Made my first secondary school author visit in April and would really love to see more author visits happening in secondary schools going forward!
Made my first secondary school author visit in April! It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with the Sec 1 students of Evergreen Secondary School & Bukit View Secondary School over three separate sessions - the students had read #MyBFFIsAnAlien during their March hols as part of English and English Literature activities. We also did giveaways of Sabotage, the 2nd book of the series, during the sessions and I could tell the kids were surprised & excited about it 😄 Thank you ASCD & Epigram Books for arranging my visits and much love to the teachers at both schools for taking pics for me 🙏
As compared to primary schools, author visits don't happen as often in secondary schools - I understand 1 of the reasons is that secondary schools are usually already packed with activities. So I do appreciate the opportunity to share with the students, not only about my books, but my writing journey and publishing process. I hope it gave them a better understanding and appreciation of the work that goes into the making of a book, and that it will inspire them to write their own stories.
I really would love to see more author visits happening in secondary schools. It's a sad truth that kids have less time to read after they move on to secondary school becos of increased commitments in school and digital distractions (it's the same for my elder girl). So I think all the more there need to be author visits in secondary schools to remind kids of the joy of reading and to inspire them to keep reading & writing, no? 😊
I haven't had the time to to post every school visit I made in April - it had been a really hectic month - but just want to shout out to Pasir Ris Primary School, Casuarina Primary School and Greenridge Primary School for welcoming me to their schools in April! My school visits for the first half of the year are coming to an end and will resume in July. I hope I'd be able to visit more schools in the second half of this year! Much love to Readers' House for arranging my primary school visits and for taking pics for me!
If there are any educators here who'd like me to visit your school, do get in touch with me and/or Readers' House!
