In the thrilling sequel to The Night of Legends, the stakes are upped as Keix and friends form an uneasy alliance with former foes in the face of a new enemy more ruthless than Atros in The Light of Stars.

The Light of Stars (TLOS) picks up where The Night of Legends (TNOL) left off, continuing Keix’s journey after she battled betrayals, self-doubt, and Atros - the very organisation that raised her to be a soldier. In this sequel, she sets off alone in search of her father, only to cross paths with a mysterious Kulcan boy who might just hold the key to finding him. But when a new enemy, even more ruthless than Atros, emerges, Keix is thrown off course. She and her friends are forced into a shaky alliance with former foes to stop the threat from destroying the world they know.

Kayce Teo - a Singaporean author who writes under the pen name Leslie W - scales new heights with TLOS. She has created an exciting new world, introducing us to magical Ifarls, vicious Odats, and fierce Kulcan warriors, and this sequel builds further on that as we venture into the intriguing city of Tilsor. The story radiates anime-style vibes, even as it stays grounded in themes like loyalty, sacrifice, and the hard choices we make for the greater good.

I really love the dynamic between Keix and her crew - Vin, Zej, Pod, Maii, Dace, and newcomer Jun. Their banter, crushes, and friendship feel so real, and Kayce nails that young-love vibe without making it overly dramatic. The multiple POVs serve the story well, keeping the stakes high and the pace snappy.

The final book in the trilogy, The Dawn of Reckoning (TDOR), drops early next year, and I’m lucky enough to be reading its draft. I’m only a quarter in, and already I can see how all the threads are coming together - I believe we’re in for an explosive finale. So if you haven’t read TLOS yet, now’s the time before TDOR lands!
