(UPDATED) Singapore Writers Festival 2021

I'm thrilled to be a featured speaker at the Singapore Writers Festival 2021!

You can tell from the screengrab below from the Singapore Writers' Festival session, Friendship: The Real Unsinkable Ship, that it was happy vibes all round! 😁 It was a real honour for me to share the stage with author @debbi_michiko_florence to talk about how we portray friendships in middle grade novels and the inspirations behind our stories - kudos to session moderator, Melanie Lee, who asks the best questions 😉

Thank you to those who came to our session and also those who left questions and comments. Sorry we couldn't respond directly to your messages in the chatbox as speakers are on a different platform and we don't see the mesgs live - Mel did the heavy lifting by sifting through the comments and qnses 😅 But I know quite a few of my friends and their kids dropped by as hubs managed to screenshot some of the comments 😆 (Blocked out the names in case u do not wish to be identified!)

I understand there were some tech difficulties at the start of the session but a Video on Demand of the full session, which you can access with your Festival Pass, will be available soon! In the meantime, here's a snippet of the talk (my voice came out rather low in the transmission 😆)

The SWF 2021 is happening till 14 November with loads of interesting programmes including Navigating Memory Lane with Melanie and @darylkho on 13 Nov, 6-7pm. I know I'll be there 😉 There are also a number of talks and activities suitable for kids which you can find in my post here.

Do also check out the Festival Bookshop where books by presenters are available at 10% discount, including my personal fave - Keep it Together, Keiko Carter - by Debbi, an MG book that so realistically portrays friendships and first crushes. I borrowed the book from the library but am definitely getting a copy for my girls 😉

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know the Singapore Writers Festival 2021 is happening 5-14 November and I'm thrilled to be a featured speaker at the event 🤗.

Author Debbi Michiko Florence and I would be sharing in our 7 November session - Friendship: The Real Unsinkable Ship - how we capture the trials and tribulations of growing up and portray strong relationships and friendships that keep readers emotionally invested. The session will be moderated by the amazing Melanie Lee.

Personally, I look forward to the literary event every year as it's a wonderful opportunity to hear from and interact with local and international writers and creative talents. There are also quite a number of talks, workshops and storytelling sessions suitable for children 😉. Many of the sessions are held online this year - some are free, some require festival passes which cost only $20-35 per pass and one pass allows you to attend all, if not most of the sessions. Early bird tickets are available till 8 October but do register early for the sessions as slots are limited! More information available at the SWF website!
