PSLE Science Examiners' Secrets Revealed provides insights on how to attain full marks when answering open-ended questions for primary school science in Singapore.

The title of this assessment book - PSLE Science Examiners' Secrets Revealed - published by Marshall Cavendish Education totally caught my eye when I was browsing the Shopee stores of Experal Singapore. Being a PSLE mum this year, I'd sure love to know examiners' marking secrets 😊

Well, the secrets are revealed in the 'Let Me Show You' section of each topic where the answers to sample open-ended questions (OEQs) are marked with comments on why the answer was or wasn't awarded full marks. This is followed by context-based, scientific inquiry, factual query and graphic analysis OEQs students can practise on their own.

I coach both my girls in science but honestly, I'm no expert. I learn alongside my girls by analysing together with them required key words and how questions need to be answered. For primary school science, you may understand the concepts but you'll lose marks if you do not answer questions as required by examiners with certain key words.

So, we try to get more exposure to various types of OEQs from good assessment books to familiarise ourselves with answer requirements.

This book definitively gave us a better understanding of these requirements, not just in its 'Let me show you' sections, but also in its answer sheets, where it shows how marks are awarded 💪🏽
